Establishment
In early 2005 the State Government of Chhattisgarh decided to establish the University with the prospect to arrange systematic education in the state related to technology and engineering subjects. The relevant act was passed in the Chhattisgarh state assembly on 21 January 2005. Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone of the University in a ceremony organized on 30 April 2005.Land and financial aid by Bhilai Steel Plant
According to news report published in January 2008, the authority of Bhilai Steel Plant, one of the largest steel plants of the country decided to hand over 250 acres of land to the Chhattisgarh government for the establishment of the University. In addition they also declared of donating INR50 crore (US$8.5 million) to the state government for required infrastructure development.
